Officers of our group

Alastair Broom

Picture
Chairman and Trustee
Alastair has lived in Lane End since 2006 so admits to being a 'newcomer'! He was a Director of Hamptons International before launching Garageflex, a business providing storage solutions to private garages throughout the country. Alastair sold Garageflex in December 2021 but stays on as a part time consultant.
"On becoming involved with the opportunity to purchase Finings Wood", Alastair says: "I see this as a wonderful, once in a lifetime opportunity for the village and the people who live here."
Alastair also is a keen sportsman, allotment holder, and grandfather to four grandchildren.

Matthew Corder

Picture
Secretary and Trustee
Matt is a relative newcomer to Lane End, having moved here in 2021 to be close to his daughter and family. Since then, he has enjoyed participating in local life, joining Lane End Conservation Group, The National Trust’s Chiltern Rangers and now our group too.
Now retired, Matthews career was in landscape architecture, first in local government, then in private practice. Much of his work has included a strong emphasis on habitat creation, particularly in the context of reclaiming derelict and degraded land.
Matt has also co-written two books, ‘Natural Economy’ and Environmental Economy’ which outline a naturalistic approach to the design and management of open spaces in the urban environment.
Matt says "I am very pleased to be able to continue conserving natural habitats by helping in the bid to buy Finings Wood for the village."

Andrew Daw

Picture
Treasurer and Trustee
Andrew has lived in Lane End since 2016. He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1982 and worked in both professional practice and industry until 2020, when he changed direction to become a postgraduate student of history at Oxford University. He has worked for businesses and clients globally, specialising in corporate finance, restructuring and turning round heavily indebted companies.

Andrew is a trustee of Marlow Sports Club and treasurer of Marlow Hockey Club, and after a 33-year rest from the game turns out in goal regularly for the 6th XI. He has been known to cycle to Italy and follow Arsenal over much of the UK and Europe.

Tim Grout-Smith
Tim has lived in Lane End since 1976, on returning from Australia where he was a cadet journalist with the ABC. He had a brief stint on the Bucks Free Press and then worked for the BBC World Service for 25 years, as a journalist and producer, reporting for the BBC from some thirty countries, and in later years training reporters and environmental groups in Ukraine under several EU-funded projects. He also spent six months with the BBC Natural History Unit in Bristol.
He is a keen environmentalist and was a warden for the BBOWT reserve at Swain’s Wood, looking after its rare orchids, and has carried out surveys for the British Trust for Ornithology for many years.

Finings Wood has been the backdrop of family life for his children and now grandchildren for nearly fifty years.
