The need for shady places to go in order to cool off will become increasingly important as our Summers get warmer. Wandering through a woodland glade like this with the full leaf canopy keeping the ground temperature much cooler is such a relief during a scorcher like today.

Author - Paul Thomas - Facebook post If you didn`t see the article about Finings Wood in the latest Summer 22 Clarion magazine, may I recommend it to you. Katy Dunn has described what might happen if we don`t acquire these woods and suggests the benefits to all if we are successful. In summing up the article she writes… `Actions so far include writing to the vendor with the Group’s concerns and objectives, looking into the possibility of a community crowdfunding project and compiling a list of possible buyers to approach who might have the requisite funds and sympathetic attitude to contribute in full or in part to the wood’s purchase.` Keep a look out for when the crowd funding effort goes live. At the moment both the vendor and his agent are sympathetic to our plans to own, maintain, protect and enjoy Finings Wood as a community asset. A big thanks to all of you who visited our stand at the Lane End Fete and at Lacey`s Family Farm Open Day last Sunday. A lot more people are now getting the full message about Finings Wood, an Ancient Woodland in the heart of the village. Link to article here Author - Paul Thomas
All set and ready at the Open Farm Sunday at Laceys Farm today. The sun shone and record numbers of visitors came to this fabulous event that had something for all members of the family and took great interest in the Lane End, Finings Wood Group project, our 'Jewel in the Crown' and latest developments towards the purchase of the woods to safeguard its future for the village to enjoy. . The Finings Wood north western boundary of trees towered high, overlooking the farmyard and event, so it was great to be able to wave our arms in its direction as the centre of attention. . Thanks go to everyone who came and took an interest and contributed with their pledges or donations. Thankyou too, to those who volunteered their time and support handing out leaflets and keeping the dialogue going throughout the day. Zahir, Alastair, Ceri, Roger, Trevor, Anne and my wife Pauline Thomas for creating the green crown, that had everyone guessing which plants and trees from Finings Wood went into its making. Every little bit really helps. The Finings Wood Group are taking a stand to Open Farm Sunday at Laceys Farm this Sunday 12th June between 10.00 and 4.00. Come over for a chat and support for the future of Finings Wood as a community woodland for Lane End village for all ages to enjoy.

If you went down to the Lane End Village Fete & Dog Show 2022 today you might have visited the Lane End Conservation Group stand, and seen the presentation about the Lane End, Finings Wood Group and the work of the Conservation Group within the village. With the weekend all about the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebration it was all about crowns. So we had on display our own green jewels in a crown. Made completely from the beautiful bounty of nature found within Finings Wood. |
