It's official! Finings Wood is a very special place

If you didn`t get to Dr Jill Eyers presentation of Finings Wood last night (Thursday) then you missed a very uplifting and informative talk. About 40 people came to Cadmore End Village Hall where the LECG were hosting Jill as the guest speaker at their AGM. Geology, History, place names and conclusions about managing and protecting Finings Wood were discussed and how to make it more accessible to all who live nearby.
Thanks go to the LECG for their hospitality which paid off as 3 new members joined this friendly and active conservation group. It`s £10 pa and they meet every first Saturday at 10.00 in the car park near the surgery.

To mark the 400th person signing up to this Finings Wood group, here is a tiny corner of the wood after all the recent heavy rain. Turn up the volume and enjoy the sound of this woodland stream making it`s way to the underlying chalk and on down to the River Thames

Findings in Finings Wood!

Geologist, author and Lane End resident Dr Jill Eyers has now completed her report on the natural history of Finings Wood. The full 54 page report will be available soon but to get a first hand account of her findings, Jill will be guest speaker at the Conservation group AGM on November 24th 2022, 8.00pm at Cadmore End village Hall. Jill is a regular public speaker on archaeology as well as geology and ancient cultures.

For those who think they know Finings Wood you will find the talk both enlightening and entertaining. The case for Lane End to own Finings Wood, to protect and manage it gets stronger as we learn more about it`s special features. Ancient Woodland is a rare feature in the landscape of southern England, we have 63 acres of it right on our doorstep!

All are welcome and refreshments will be served.

As Chairman of Finings Wood Community Group I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made the Magical Walk on Sunday so successful. A lot of thought and planning went into the afternoon by all those involved: so thank you to the Theatre on the Row, The Lane End Players and the Friends of Finings Wood who all contributed to the set up and performances in the wood and with over 100 children and their parents it made for a very special day. Thank you too to all those who came and we hope you all enjoyed your afternoon. Also a thank you to the marshals on the day and Laceys Farm for letting us use their car park. And I know the Lane End Players have a production in the Village Hall shortly so to see these wonderful artists plying their trade again soon make sure you get tickets! Thank you all. Alastair Broom
