A short walk amongst the trees or an opportunity to see the potential of Finings Wood as a village asset? Well, both of the above really.
Meet today at 10.00 at Lane End Surgery. Also, at the same time on Saturday and Monday.

It is difficult to understand the reason why one of the leaflet dispensers in Finings Wood was destroyed. Somebody must have done it yesterday afternoon or this morning. The group of eight people with me were so annoyed that this has happened. We found some of the plastic remains and collected all the leaflets from under a bush and put them back into stock. Not helpful at all.

All are welcome to the second of 6 walks and talks through Finings Wood at 10.00 tomorrow, Saturday 23rd. We are meeting by the surgery in Lane End and Dr Tim Harrison is joining us. There are long and short walks to suit all. Bring the kids and well behaved dogs on leads.

320 leaflets have been picked up from the dispensers in Finings Wood recently, which is very encouraging and reflects the growing support for the idea of Finings Wood being a community asset.

Home and Away
Yesterday`s walk through finings Wood with Dr Tim Harrison was both enlightening and enjoyable. Trees, flowers, butterflies, heat pumps and politics were all on the agenda. Only 4 attended, but this is the first of 6 walks that are coming up in the next few weeks. Saturday`s walk and talk starts at 10.00 at the surgery. Walk as long as you like but to get the full picture of Finings Wood as a great asset to Lane End allow 2 hours.

This morning I took the dog to Penn and Tylers Green. There I met up with Mike Morley who is the manager of the community woodland called Common Wood. Mike has 20 years’ experience with this wood and has offered his help and advice to us regarding the day to day managing of accessible woodland for walkers, runners, horse riders and cyclists, but making sure that the trees have the last say. Mike is joining us on the 18th November at the Lane End Conservation Group agm.

2 Saturday 23rd October with Dr Tim Harrison
3 Wednesday 27th October.

6 Saturday 13th November. (Dr Tim to confirm)
Dr Tim Harrison`s knowledge of the geology, trees and plants in Finings is astonishing and gives a real insight into how and why the nature thrives. He has been plant recording in Finings for the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland since 2005 so knows it well.
The programme of walks and talks will be followed with a Finings Wood meeting on Thursday 18th November at 8.00pm in the Village Hall, hosted by Lane End Conservation Group with guest speakers on community woodland, forestry grants and environmental concerns.
All are welcome to attend to discuss the future of Finings Wood.

A nice clip from the Forestry Commission about maintaining open spaces and rides within woodland for the benefit of flowers, butterflies, insects and small mammals.
