High five! We did it! What a caring, generous, nature-loving and amazing community we have here in the Lane End Parish. The support that the Finings Wood Community Group committee have had from you has helped us keep going. It takes a lot of work, time and effort to mastermind the purchase of a large woodland for our community. But we are getting there!!
As you may have heard yesterday, the Aviva crowd funding has just closed and this fund was so good to us - to start with we were matched by 2x each donation (with Save our Wild Isles funds), and then matched by Aviva. The grand totals are: 410 pledges Donating a total of £25,564 So what next? Phew we can all have a little rest – as all funding bodies have a little lull in activity over Christmas. But we have a further 4 lots of funding bids already in progress, 3 being assessed right now. These will add to our excellent start and enable us to purchase Finings Wood for everyone. Three bids are in and the fourth is being moved along by members of the team who have a Zoom meeting set up with their advisors next week. We will keep you posted as we hear news. In the meantime you will hear very soon of a little fun thing for families planned for the woods on December 29th. So look out for the upcoming information on this free event. Have a lovely Christmas, a good rest, and be ready for action in the new year Dr Jill Eyres

When the thrill of new toys have waned and parents are desperate to get antsy kids out of the house, we're running a children's activity trail in the woods 10-30am-12.30pm on Friday 29 December. Meet at the entrance to Finings Wood by Lacey's.
Winter Wings children's trail is themed around birds migrating from the frozen north to the safety of Finings Wood - and the adventures they have on the way. Our little redwings and fieldfares will encounter scary Mrs Owl, spin a giant compass to find their way, battle through stormy weather and make a bird feeder from pine cones and seeds. Wrap up warm and see you there! Wow. Just wow. And thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The Aviva crowdfunder has now ended, and you helped us raise a spectacular £25,564!!
This is brilliant and goes towards our goal of owning Finings Wood for the community! You are all amazing and we are so thankful words do not seem enough. Our committee would also like to say a HUGE thank you to Jill Eyers our committee member for grants. She worked so hard on this project getting it to be accepted and is a force to be reckoned with. Jill will be giving you all an update of info regarding the grant in another post, then we will leave you in peace until tomorrow when we announce a little Xmas gift from us to the families with little ones in the village taking place in-between Christmas and New Year in the woods! Watch this space. We still have a long way to go to own this woodland, but today our little team are so chuffed with this amazing amount raised and are rather loving our incredible supporters who personally donated from this village and surrounding villages and donations from businesses and more. The messages of support showing in the fund are so lovely to read. Big hugs. HUGE! There are now just 22 hours before Aviva will stop matching your Finings Wood donation. At 16.00 tomorrow (13th) the fund will close, so please put that £10 or more towards this great local project and it will become £20 `just like that`. Go to the Aviva site below, edit the amount you wish to donate, zero the tip and add a supporting comment. £250 is the maximum amount that Aviva will double, What a great fund raiser, just look what has been added in the last few days.
Wow! Just gone over £21,000! We have 5 days left before this crowd funder ends with a £30k target allowed. We are so thankful of everyone's support this side of Christmas to help us save Finings wood for our local community.
So if you have not donated already, watch your donation double so every penny is valued! Let's do this Finings Wood supporters! @everyone This Aviva matched crowd fund for Finings Wood has just tipped over to £19K. Any donation from £5 up to £250 gets doubled. The target is £30K before next week so this is your chance to say `I helped buy Finings Wood` Add your donation, zero the tip and add a comment for all to read.
Very cold but very worthwhile weekend at Laceys Christmas fair. The Aviva matched crowd fund has increased by nearly £1000 to £18,736 Thank you for those generous donations towards the Finings Wood purchase that get doubled by Aviva. 9 more days left before this special fund closes.
Last chance for Special Pre-Christmas prices on Finings Wood framed (and unframed) photographs. Come on down to Turville Studios this Sunday 11-4pm to see these and many more local woods and tree images.
10% of sales from this series go towards the funding for Finings Wood - so you will be giving twice if you buy one as a gift! Christmas cards, gifts, framed and unframed prints and originals, at affordable prices too- all at Turville Studios this Sunday. To wake up and see the fund at just over £14,000 has made our hearts leap this morning. WOW WOW WOW! thank you to 99 Supporters! incredible.
Lets get that last push out as we try for our first target of £15,000! Aviva funding will soon run out as we are not the only group asking for help across the UK from this fund. Will you be supporter number 100? Reminders: The fund match funds by two times your donation, so if you donate £20 they add another £40! Max donation from them is £500, so £250 max on your donation. You can amend the suggested amounts they show to smaller or bigger using the free text box and you do not need to add a tip. Try not to use the same details twice as they only allow one donation per person/card etc., so amend name if you wish. Lastly THANK YOU! we are really humbled. https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/p/finings-woodrooted-in-the-community As the funding site for Aviva & Save our Wild Isles is fast closing - anyone wanting to make a second donation I recommend using a different card for payment and/or using your name slightly differently e.g. I used ‘Jill Eyers’ and ‘DrJ. Eyers’.
Reason: The fund seem to allow only one donation for the x2 offer - although they actually have allowed several second donations through successfully so this is playing safe for max income for the woods. IMPORTANT. I have just received an e-mail from the Aviva and Save our Wild Isles Fund to say:
"The Save Our Wild Isles fund is now very close to being fully allocated. Pledges from the remaining fund amount will be made on a first come, first served basis. The Save Our Wild Isles Community Fund matches £2 for every £1 donated by the crowd up to £15,000 for your project." Let's make every one of our pounds work in triple while their funds last - a quick push forward to getting more donations will help us reach that last third of our target. Nab anyone who has not put in a pound or so We are so nearly almost there! What an amazing 'Five Ends' effort - thanks so much! The link to donate to, or to send to others, is in the previous posts. Just incredible to see we are well over the £9000 mark now, and over half way there for the first round! Our supporters are epic! lets keep it going if we can, and spread the word. It only allows one donation per person, so lets make it count and see your pennies triple! please feel free to share the post to your tribe.
EDIT: The crowdfunding lasts until the fund runs out and we have had notice it is nearly at its end! so please donate today if you can! Only 1 donation per person if using same card to pay and name, matched to £500 max. You can set the tip to zero and you can use the free text box to put a smaller amount in than is shown x There are 722 supporters in our group which is fantastic. 52 supporters have donated to our crowd funder and got it to over half way with £8000+ already!
Imagine what could be achieved if some of the rest of you were able to perhaps donate a tenner or more and watch your donation triple! We are so grateful to you all. This wood deserves to be owned by our village for our village. Caroline Watson - Facebook - Committee Member A reminder that the Lane End parish council meeting is tomorrow evening 6th Nov at LEYCC at 7.30, The Parish Council have invited a volunteer warden from Penn Common Wood who will be giving a short presentation about this community woodland. It would be great to see as many people as possible at this meeting.
Paul Thomas - Trustee Wow! We are more than one third of the way towards our £15,000 funding with the Aviva and Save our Wild Isles crowd funding. Their generous offer of giving us twice any donation is wonderful, but we only have a couple of weeks. Even if you can only spare £1 then this will be matched x2 giving a £3 donation via Aviva.
There are lots of us out there in and around Lane End - people power armed with lots of single one pounds can help us buy Finings Wood for the community. Of course the more you can spare, the quicker we reach the goal. If we miss out then we are certain to lose these beautiful woods. Let's pull together and save our patch of nature for the village. Here is the link to donate (and you do not have to give the 'tip' they suggest of course! EDIT: Double wow! We are now up to £8557 today 11th Nov. Plus that is from only 50 supporters. An amazing thank you to all those contributing so far. Let's make sure all our supporters help out, even if just a tiny bit. Remember Aviva are putting in 2 x every donation. The comments on the fundraising page say it all - WE ALL LOVE our woods. We have opened a Crowd Funding site to help us add to the purchase funds for Finings Wood. This fund is GREAT !! Whatever you put into it, Aviva and the Wild Isles Nature Fund will put 2 x that. So if you put in £10 it becomes a £30 donation - like magic!
Please pass this information on to friends, family, folk at work, strangers in the street anyone. We only have this open opportunity for 8 weeks, then it is closed. So we need to move rapidly to increase our funds. So it's all systems go and here is the link to the page: www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/p/finings-woodrooted-in-the-community?fbclid=IwAR3C0ldKS-aAxsBH6qhyjlI83Ftk5TQcns-TUZQAX33T59rLDNfJEWLonl0 When I popped by Sylvana La Faye this afternoon on my walk, I noticed that she has another new fabulous friend, a lovely bat, just in time for Halloween.
Thankyou once again to the anonymous creative donor of this magnificent little fellow. So when you are in #finingswood do pop by and say hello! Anyone got a good idea for a batty name? #chilternpaths #batsarecool #woodlandsculpture #GreenSculptures Following on from the APPLE DAY last weekend, the woods and nearby hedgerows continue to inspire with its fabulous Autumn offerings of berries, nuts and leaves for these Autumnal door wreaths, made and sold all in aid of #FiningsWood.

After all the activity of the Apple Day today, I got home to walk the dog just as the sun was going down over Finings Wood to which all our efforts today were in aid of. I could not help but admire the horizon of this woodland that is its southern boundary and the beautiful sky above that shone so clear and blue for us all day today. Thankyou to everyone who came and supported us all today and of course the brilliant team of helpers, and all the wonderful home grown produce that made the day. Many thanks to everyone who supported Finings Wood by coming to our Apple Day. We had a lovely afternoon and hope you did too. It looks like we have raised nearly £600 for our cause so we are thrilled! look out for next year as we will be doing it again!
APPLE DAY tomorrow is a #bringandbuy event and is not just about apples, there will be pumpkins, squashes and fabulous home grown and produce too. Scrumptious Home bakes and more with cream teas to enjoy as well!
Please do join us, meanwhile if you go for a walk in #finingswood you can't miss seeing what I did with my pumpkin, not far from the bridge of trolls, well ahead of the scary spider season. Please note that the bracket fungi on the tree has not been harmed in the making of this post and the little Orange House. Nor does its front door open, but Lane End village hall and garden will certainly be open so why not come and join us? This morning, before it started raining, we took a group in and around Finings Wood. They came from Marlow U3a (university of the 3rd age) and Dr Tim Harrison also joined us as an expert on the plants, mosses and fungi. This is the best way to demonstrate the potential of Finings as a community woodland and we were rewarded by a £50 group donation with more individual donations likely. Here we are gathered around the mysterious Sylvana La Fey.
Paul Thomas - Trustee APPLE DAY and Produce sale on Sunday 15th October
4 more days to Sunday`s Apple event at Lane End village hall. We will be serving afternoon tea between 2.00 and 4.00 and opening the produce sale at 2.00pm. If you have apples to spare this is a great way to share them and make some money for the Finings Wood project. Bring all your home grown and home made cakes and goodies along to the village hall any time after 11.00 on Sunday morning morning. The latest news is that Anya Lautenbach will be joining us and selling their local honey, so time to stock up for the winter. |
